EPISODE 7: OZZIE SELMAN’S ULTIMATE ARCADE OF LIFE
THE GRAND FINALE OF THE 2025 MAN CAVE TOUR
For the final stop of the 2025 Man Cave Tour, we travelled west past Ipswich to Gatton, Queensland, where we met the unforgettable Ozzie Selman. If there was ever a case for saving the best for last, this was it.
Ozzie is not just a man cave builder. He is a storyteller, a survivor, and a craftsman whose cave reflects every chapter of his extraordinary life. From the streets to self-sufficiency, from radio waves to arcade games, this is a man who has lived many lives, and every one of them has left its mark on the space he now calls home.

A LIFE BUILT FROM SCRATCH
Much like the man himself, Ozzie’s cave was built from the ground up.
He and his family secured council approval, laid the slab, and built their double shed entirely by hand. No shortcuts. No contractors. Just grit, persistence, and a clear vision.
The result is a space that hums with energy, nostalgia, and soul. This is not just a structure. It is a symbol of perseverance.

THE TECHIE WITH A TIME MACHINE
Ozzie is a self-taught tech whiz, and arcade machines are the beating heart of his cave.
Lining the walls are original retro machines, some dating back to the 1970s, including Space Invaders and Atari-era classics. Alongside them sit cabinets he built himself, glowing with the kind of craftsmanship only a lifelong tinkerer can produce.
One standout is a racing simulator built into an actual race car body. Immersive barely begins to cover it.
During COVID, when many businesses shut their doors, Ozzie kept his family afloat by building and selling custom arcade machines. What started as a passion project became a livelihood, proving that creativity and persistence can turn tough times into opportunity.
Today, those same machines bring joy to his children and grandchildren, and to every visitor lucky enough to step inside.

A JUKEBOX, A HIDDEN STUDIO, AND A LIFE OF SOUND
Among the cave’s many highlights is an original jukebox. The kind where you punch in a number and watch a music video play on the screen above while the song fills the room.
Tucked behind an old vending machine door is a secret radio booth. This hidden space, complete with microphones and sound gear, nods to Ozzie’s years running a radio station in New Zealand during his younger days.
It is a small room with a big story, much like the man who built it.

FROM THE STREETS TO THE SHED
Ozzie’s journey has not been an easy one.
He shared stories from his youth that stopped us in our tracks, including periods of homelessness as a teenager and young man. Moments that could have defined him, but did not.
Through resilience and sheer willpower, he built his way forward. His story is one of belief and momentum. Of seeing possibility where others see limits, and turning that belief into something real with his own hands.
By the end of our time together, it was impossible not to feel inspired. This shed is not just filled with machines. It is filled with proof.

THE LARRIKIN SPIRIT LIVES ON
Of course, Ozzie is not just wise. He is wildly entertaining.
He told us about the game of Dead Ant, a long-running pub tradition among him and his mates. Someone yells the words, everyone drops to the floor, and the last person standing buys the next round. We even got a live demonstration, and he still moves fast.
Then there was the Scooby-Doo story.
In his younger, more adventurous years, Ozzie travelled across New Zealand dressed head to toe in a Scooby-Doo costume, refusing to take it off for days. When money ran low, he set up outside a shopping centre with a sign that read, if I make you smile or laugh, drop some money in the hat.
He barked, wagged, and howled like a cartoon canine, raising enough to cover a few nights in a hostel. Funny, fearless, and relentlessly optimistic. Just like the man himself.
FAQs: BUILDING A MAN CAVE WITH PURPOSE
What makes a great man cave?
It is not about what you buy. It is about what you build. A great man cave tells a story and makes people feel something the moment they walk in.
How do you keep creativity alive?
Stay curious. Learn new skills. Whether it is tech, timber, or tinkering with electronics, never stop exploring what your hands can do.
What’s the secret to Ozzie’s success?
Belief. In yourself, in better days, and in the power of creating your own luck.
THE SPIRIT OF THE FINALE
Ozzie Selman’s cave is not just the end of the tour. It is the perfect conclusion.
It captures everything the 2025 Man Cave Tour stands for. Passion. Creativity. Mateship. Perseverance.
It proves that no matter where you start, you can always build something extraordinary.
And with that, the 2025 Man Cave Tour comes to a close.
Seven stops. Seven stories. One shared message. The spirit of the Australian man cave is alive, evolving, and more inspiring than ever.
